Our Learners: Driving Forward
Obtaining a driver’s licence can be a significant challenge for many young people. Learner drivers are required to complete a set number of supervised driving hours before they can attempt the practical driving test and progress to a Provisional (P1) Licence.
For some, especially those in vulnerable or disadvantaged circumstances, meeting these requirements is difficult and sometimes impossible due to a lack of access to a suitable vehicle or a supervising driver. This can ultimately prevent them from ever obtaining their licence.
Not having a driver’s licence can limit a person’s access to employment, education, community involvement and essential services. It can also restrict personal independence, which may negatively affect mental health and wellbeing.
